Just picked up a new miller 210 machine and went to lay some beads down and they seem to peak.like with every weave there is a small ''mountain peak'' of metal. If i turn the machine up it will burn nicely but has the long arrow appearence to the bead.I am trying to get a nice ''stacked coin'' beads.Does this have anything to do with the metal?its 1/4'' stock,a little rust flash on it.Thanks for any help, sorry no pics yet,cam is bad.thanks guys!
Reply:It sounds like you need to get the travel speed fine tuned. If you are going too slow, the weld metal will pile up as well as when the wire speed is too high. Give it some practice time. New machines need an adjustment time period so you can get used to them. Use the door chart to get you started with the settings, and adjust from there. They will be close, but may need some tweaking.
Reply:A high bead profile is usually associated with a stickout or travel speed problem.  On weaves, I hesitate on the high and low sides and move quickly through the center.Hank
Reply:first of all, you want your basemetal to be brite and shiny no rust or millscale when ever possible. Now, to produce the stacked coins look, you can t use the doorchart settings for 1/4". Drop down to the 3/16" or 1/8" settings to perform the oscillation needed to produce the weld bead your after.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
