I'm find on www.aglevtech.net three different kinds of Lanthanated tungsten.I'm just curious, what's the difference in one, oneand one half and two percent lanthanated tungsten?.The only answer I get around here is the amount oflanthana with the tungsten. Is two percent better thanone percent?
Reply:Lanthanated are used mostly on stainless, nickel alloy and titanium, The added rare earths to a tungsten are going to affect it's longevity, arc (metal type depends), resistance to contamination and amperage value. I have thoriated .040 i use on thin metals and 1/16'' ceriated for up to about 3/16''. I've heard that thoriated starts better at lower amperages. but i have the non-radioactive ceriated i use most mainly because it's not radioactive.  Higher amounts in lanthanated tungstens are going to going to get you more life out of the tungsten itself, better ignition, less burnoff, and better reignition.StangnetShop Full Of Stuff.
