I am taking classes at San Jacinto College in Houston, Tx and was wondering what you think about this schedule they offer to achieve a certificate in Combo Welding and if it should be taken in this order. here it is 1st semester- Intro to gas tungsten arc welding advanced gas tungsten arc welding Intro to shielded metal arc welding 2nd semester- advanced shielded metal arc welding intro to pipe welding advanced pipe welding

Reply:Good luck and might look into learning gmaw(mig). I weld pipe for a living now but my first welding job involved a lot of mig and fluxcore. I'm glad I learned as many processes as possible and imo you should as well.
Reply:thank you all for the feedback. im not sure why mig isnt in the curriculum i will probably end up taking it after i have this certificate i will return and get the mig cert as well. any advice for a new guy starting out in class?
Reply:Burn rod till they shut the doors or turn out the lights. Remember that it all comes with practice and patience. Just because you don't get it the first week don't mean you won't improve. Keep your first set of coupons and compare them with newer ones a few weeks into the course. You'll see the difference and that'll keep you motivated
