Chucker asked about these and I said I would get pics....so a LONG time later....here they are. This is on the UPRR where they put up radio antenna for their signals. The pole pivots up in the air and there is a rope in the box just up off the ground. This thing is tall! The little outhouse is about 8ft tall next to it.Hope someone can make use of the design!I will post all the pics in multiple posts here......Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:Nice, not what I was expecting.  I was thinking the whole tower tilted.  I was also thinking how the heck would you let it down.   Where did you get it hot dipped?ThanksDavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Where's the dime??...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:In the profile shot with your thumb and the base plate, that bolt right there don't look near tight enough. Or are we getting a weird angle?
Reply:It looks like it tilts down onto the wires?OOPS?   Or are they far away?Me!
Reply:Sure looks like that bolt is loose to me too. That is slick.
Reply:That's about as simple and straight forward tilt concept I've seen.  Pretty neat.
Reply:Looks as though it tilts towards the camera to me - parallel to the wires and railway lines. For something that short and solid it's a nice design. For something taller wouldn't it get very heavy very quickly? The vertical mast needs to be strong enough to take half its weight across each side of the pivot then it's horizontal, so it wouldn't be much lighter than a full-height self supporting pole. I'm used to guyed masts but a rough guess says you would need more total material/weight than with a ground pivot and gin pole. So you're trading off more mass and complexity against ease of access to the top of the pole. And that nut definitely looks loose!
Reply:Hey guys,I didn't build it....I was just taking pics for the idea. The whole thing tilts parallel to the rail and the wires. It doesn't touch anything as it swings down.Yep, that nut does look loose. Not my deal.It is balanced pretty well so you just push the bottom and it swings up. They put the rope on it to pull it back down. Probably not the BEST way to tilt a pole, but it is ONE idea. I have NO IDEA where they hot dip that thing. But it would be fun to watch.Zap, I put the dime on the rail. It now looks something like a half dollar! heheheh Damn trains.Last edited by Joker11; 02-12-2008 at 09:08 AM.Reason: Add Dime comment.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:HELLO TO ALL,it does not look tamper proof. that pin wouldbe easy to remove, and the thing could be vandalized! should have some kind of lockingmechanism to prevent this.also agree with the other post, the nut is loose, but why?wlbrown
Reply:Who said anything about tamper proof? The request was for tilting ideas. The pin can be removed, but the lock would have to be cut.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
