Hello,New guy here...I have a ac/dc lincoln and I want to make a gate for my driveway at my camp. I have access to a lot of scrap galvanized fence pipe 1.5" schedule 40 I believe. Is there any special rod I need to run? I have 6013, 6010 rods in stock. I know don't breathe the fumes from galv.Thanks.
Reply:Grind all the zinc off where the arc will be. It will help reduce the fumes and make it easier to weld as the burning zinc will make the iron burn thru easier. Either rod will work well, I prefer 6011. The 6010 will probably work best of the two. Reply:I prefer the cellulose rods ( 6010 or 6011) A bit of whipping will burn off any small amounts of zinc left as you go along. A zinc rich paint on the joints afterward and you are good.
Reply:thanks for the info.
Reply:Not special, just 6010 or 6011. After one pass, enough of the galv will have burned off that you should be ok to do remaining passes with 7018. |
