Hey yall...Well, this has been my latest project that ive been working on, its a frame off restoration, and customization of this little old MTD mower:Anyways, im putting larger wheels on it. Im using bigger fenders off of a second parts mower, and bigger wheels off of a third. I know they will fit, i just need to mount them to the axles somehow. The larger wheels in this picture, are the ones that im installing. The smaller ones, are the ones that were on it. Im thinking i should deflate all the tires, and cut out the centers of the old rims, and weld them to the new rims. I just dont know how i should go about deciding where to cut, and how to cut. Or, i could drill new holes in the new rims, but then, how would i know where to make the holes?? Sorry, i know its a noob question, but im new at this. Thanks for the help, guys [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:Make a false center, a cut off broom handle or something that's a snug fit in the existing hub and drive it in. Mark center on the handle and use it to scribe a circle that's the diameter of the bolt circle that you want then step off the three bolt holes. Now get a hole saw the size of the hole that you need and use it to cut out the old axle hub, the piece of wood will be used as the center for the hole saw.......Mike
Reply:Lanse watch the vid in this thread before you do anything! You'll want to remove those tires completely before you do any welding or cutting on those rims.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=39368.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Wow, welp, that video pretty much shoots that idea... I think ill cut the tread/beads all the way around on the old wheels, and remove them, and then ill pretty much just have a rim with attatched beads, and nothing that can explode. Then, ill torch the centers out and lay them over the middle of the new/big rims, and trace them, and then use a hole saw for the big hole, and a regular drill for the three bolt holes. You guys are the best, thanks for the help :-)And those are some beautiful machines, i really like garden tractors. We used to have bigger tractors (ranging from a 1934 Allis chalmers to a turbo diesal kubota) but that got old... I parted/scrapped my antiques, and my dad sold his kubota, and now im right where i was when i was 13, playing with garden tractors. Although ive never done anything this drastic. Im putting an 18hp briggs in this thing, and then playing around with it some. I have a suspition that ill eventually destroy the transmission, but if that happens, i can always put in another one, i guess... Anyways, ive been making youtube videos of the progress so far, and its been going really well... Enjoy :-)[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3K40oDX6ig[/ame][ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWv1z6DbXWc[/ame][Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply].
