I am new to this site so hello all. I found a Millermatic 140 new in box for $500 bucks is this a good deal? I only plan to weld up 1/4 inch if that big. Mostly just 16 to 14 ga. tubing for treestands. What are your thoughts. Thanks James
Reply:The MM140 top's out at about 1/8" under real world conditions, and thats usually using a dedicated 20 amp line. Maybe a bit more with FC wire. If you want a machine capable of doing 1/4" you need to look at 220v machines not 110v ones. The MM211 on 220v or a MM180 would do this easily..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I was also thinking of the loncoln 140 at home depot. Are these basically the same welder besides the autoset on the miller. What about the millermatic 180? How is that one? Anyone have experiance with this welder?
Reply:The Lincoln will have all the power issues and thickness limitations the Millermatic 140 has. The MM 180 being a 220v machine will have signifigantly more power to work with, and can still be turned down to do thinner stuff. The 180 is a much better machine..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:$500 for MM 140 look slike a great price to me I got my Hobart for around that. These machines are small enough to take anywhere if thats an option you may need stick with the 140 cause you cant take a 220v line anywhere. I got the 140 and a buzz box off craigslist for more versitility.
Reply:$500 for a MM140 NIB is a good deal but like has been said it is VERY limited and I never felt that is was really effiecient past 1/8". It welded great but just does not posses the umph for anything past 1/8" (11 ga).StephenMillermatic 251Miller Syncrowave 200Miller 30A SpoolgunHypertherm Powermax 30Etc., etc., etc.............Cancer Sucks!
Reply:i have a mm140 and everybody here is right. you cant weld past 1/8" and feel confident about it. get a 220v machine.
Reply:I too have a Millermatic 140. It's a great machine. But it's only a great machine for once-in-a-summer car guy project welder. If you're going to be using it for any real continued amount of time, look at a 220V machine. It will be worth the headache to get the power to the box.
Reply:Thanks for the help guys. I've decided against the millermatic 140. I'm planning on getting a century 180 mig just for the limitations that you guys are talking about.
Reply:Yeah, when it comes to welding, limitations are no fun. |
