I don't do much stick but when I do I like 7018. I had tried some 6010 on a project for deeper penetration. I seemed to get good results but the slag was very hard to remove. I just was wondering if this was common with this rod. Thanks for any imput.
Reply:The slag on 6010 is harder to remove but you get a lot better fusion on metal that is not cleaned with it.if you have your heat right the slag should not be that hard to remove with a chipping hammer,a wire wheel on a 4 1/2 inch grinder will clean it up real well.I use 6010 and 6011[on d.c.] a lot and prefer 6011 .

Reply:Try lowering the heat and use a push technique 90-110 amps. The slag is not as thick as a 7018 and the rod does not have iron powder to aid in metal deposit. the weld will be flat to slightly concave with good penetration
Reply:What is it you are welding?  Some other alternates are 6013 and 7014. It all depends on what you are doing. Here in the Great White NorthMosquitoes can't fly at 40 below
