It's been a while since I've been around. Life sort of crept up behind me and took me for a ride. I'll post another time with a project I completed, but for now I'm looking for opinions on an O/A rig to buy. It's a toss-up between a Harris Steelworker 510 DLX and a Victor Super Range II. The Harris is for sale at $149 and the Victor is on sale for $179. What are the pro's and con's of each? Is it worth the extra 30 bucks for the Victor? Should I jump on the Harris? (I called back to check on when the Harris sale ends and the guy (not the one who gave me the quote) said that price was below his cost. Anyhow...I think the sale prices end this weekend. Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.(btw...are these cylinder prices a good deal? Q cylinder - $162WQ cylinder - $129) I don't think the prices include filling.DaveDave
Reply:Dave, I don't know about the models your choosing between, but for what it's worth. I love the Smith "Lifetime" series, and would never consider anything else. I don't know if you have time to shop for one, but I would highley recommend looking into it. Just my opinion. Adam
Reply:Personally I like Harris but most people I've talked to are Victor fans. The Harris tips are cheaper and I havent had any trouble with my 2 Harris torches.axehind
Reply:i like victor the most personally
Reply:Gawd, I had a Harris back when we had dirt and water and no one thought about mud. I'm a Victor guy. Mostly because no matter where I am or whom I'm with, chances are most likely there's a source for tips and parts close by.I don't recall that being the case with the Harris. Of course times have changed and now a days everywhere you look there's mud, most of it slinging, most of that by politicians and pundits.life is good
Reply:From what I know, they are both good rigs. I have to agree that you may have a better chance of getting tips and service with the Victor unit though since I see them more in use and parts available around than the Harris. Reply:Thanks for the info! From what I gather, it's probably worth a few extra bucks to get the Victor for peace of mind and parts/tip availability. I think I'll go that route then.Any feedback on the tank prices? Should I shop around more or is that a reasonable price for 'em?DaveDave |
