I have a Diamond welder I am restoring, I believe its from the 50's has wooden armature spindles and wooden frame with a steel shell. Does anyone know anything about these welders? Any info would be a help thanks. Attached Images
Reply:Hello and welcome TrevSonn,Interesting item.By the 50s USA manufacturing was way beyond this.I'd have to say it was built well before the 50s, probably more like the early 20s, at the latest.I actually wonder if maybe it's not a welder? What does that data plate say? What sort of wires and insulation?Good Luck
Reply:It is a welder it welds very smooth and steady too, also very heavy in weight. Cotton coated wires into the panel but have not opened it up yet to get a visual. I was told it was the first or second electric welder in our county that a local blacksmith had purchsed.
Reply:Of course the blacksmith and the first or second electric welder in the county would certainly have to predate the 1950s.What does that data plate say?How 'bout the control panel?Good Luck
Reply:That looks like the stuff they go find on "American Pickers"..That is becoming one of my favorite shows.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:TrevSonn can you get some closeup pictures of the manufacturers information plate on the front right corner. and one of the backside. It almost looks like a very old Lincoln Tombstone welder.Oh yeah American Pickers and those crazy Pawn Shop guysCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:i wanna see more pictures , how neatI forgot how to change this.
Reply:Dual control sure seems refined for an old AC buzz box? TrevSonn, do the controls have "steps" or a continuous smooth adjustment?Good Luck
Reply:Other than the disconnect, it looks like an old locomotive steam boiler I seldom see anymore. Thats incredible, the fact that it still welds is a testimate to the old tried and true transformer technology.I would never get rid of it.Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:I will get the serial plate cleaned up this weekend and up date this for you guys. I have some more pictures also. Its a great welder to use. It has steps in the adjustment, 3 ranges on the left control and 10 on the right. Thanks for the interest. Yes it does look alot like a tombstone welder lincoln use to make but its a bit heavier in weight. |
