Everybody in our class either wears a mask or is in the process of getting one.half wear the pink hepa filters and half wear the organic vapour filters.Which ones are the correct ones to use??I tell people the hepa are for particulates and the organic charcole are for gas and vapors. Welding creates gasses and vapours correctanybody??
Reply:Welding doesn't produce organic vapours such as paint thinners. The primary hazard you are concerned with is particles. Some of the simple filters will remove things like ozone and the smell of cigarettes and cigars. I worked in a shipyard where we used particulate filters. There was a natural gas leak in the building and people had to be told to evaculate because they couldn't smell the odorizer through the particulate filter. I wondered why my lead hand was so excited until I pulled my mask off my face.
