I got a new lincoln power mig 350 and when I try to start the weld the wire just blows up and melts in the tip.  What am I doing wrong.  I have been using a Little Lincoln 155 for years and welded great with it mostly flux core though.  Then I step up to This new welder and Im crap.  Any suggestions as to what Im doing wrong??
Reply:Two things to check first:Is the tip sized to the wire?Is the polarity correct?
Reply:Yes the wire is .035 same with the tip.  And the polarity is correct Gun + Work clamp -.  Im using mixed gas at about 25.The odd time when I can get it to start the weld is very ropey and thick, not pretty
Reply:I believe the Power Mig 350 is very similar to my 300. With that in mind...1: What programme are you running?2: What is your WFS setting?3: What is your volt/trim setting?4: Have you altered any of the presets (spot mode, pre/post flow, run-in, start, etc.)?5: What base metal are you welding on, and what is its thickness?
Reply:could be numerous reasons.....wire feed slow or amps to high, for some reasn the wire is not spooling smoothly[blow out gun and liner],could even be dodgy motor on your rollers....just this week at work i had to change the drive cog because the key way had worn and played havock with the feed...hope you find the problem!!!
