I dont weld much, and when i went to use my wife welder the nozzel was missing. So I went and got one, and when i did my welding it turned out great. And i am a bad welder. I was wondering if the new nozzel would make a difference, or is it just that im finally getting the hang of it.
Reply:Hows it going. The nozzle on a wire feed welder is necessary if you are using solid wire with shielding gas (MIG). Basically the nozzle directs the shielding gas to the weld site creating an inert atmosphere. On the other hand, if you are using self shielding wire or inner shield (Lincoln's brand name) the nozzle plays a less important role. When in doubt use a nozzle, it can't hurt!
Reply:I always had the nozzel, with the bigger thing (sheild maybe?) around it. I just got a new nozzel, and the welds turned out great. I was wondering if you had to replace the nozzel every so often.
Reply:The small part that the wire passes thought is a contact tip. This part is sized to the size wire you are using. Generally at my place of employment we change the tips after a full twenty five pound spool of wire>

Reply:Lawnman, to answer your question, yes you nozzle will get gooped up and restrict the flow of gas and youll get bad welds. First of all keep it clean when possible. Eventually you do need to replace it though. The tip should also be cleaned whenever possible to keep buildup off it. Good luckCHRIS |
