Hello All,I enjoy this forum and I have gotten a lot of neat ideas from here so I thought that I would return the favor.  Here is a project that I did over my Christmas holiday break from work.  I went to the steel yard and I found a drop of tube that was 4x4x5/16.  I was looking for 3x3x1/4 but I like overkill so it went home with me.  I had to go buy the pins and the receiver on the bottom but the rest came out of my "inventory".  The 2 5/16" ball has been looking for a home for a while so it was used as well.  I made it for a friend who moves trailers around and wanted to use his tractor.  He said it works great.   It is now JD green. 7014 1/8" DC with a little AC/DC buzz box. Reply:Ok, another veiw.  Need to figure out the rest of posting so that I can put more than one pic to a post.  I will read up on it I promise. Attached ImagesMack
Reply:Hey Mack,Nice job on that hitch. I also like 7014 as it will lay some super sweet beads and is so nice to use without concern of moisture problems. Try to get some close-ups of your weld beads..... we all like to look at some good beads.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Thanks Yorkiepap,I will do some close-ups of welds on the next one.  I am not near it at the moment or I would take some more pics for ya.  I sorta snuck away from work to go diving.  Ya gotta have priorities, right.Mack
Reply:Did you say diving as in Scuba? I see the snow in the pictures so you are either a hard core diver like me or you went somewhere warm. Then again, maybe that's white sand in the photos... You weld at the beach? That would be could be even better!
Reply:No, not that hardcore of a diver, yes scuba. Thailand at the moment.  82d degree water temp, little windy in the morning, calm in the afternoon, viz 4-10 meters depending on the winds.  Going diving tomorrow where the manta rays have been hanging out.  They may leave because I am going there, heheh.  And yes that is snow in the pics.  I came here to get away from that stuff.  Hummm... welding at the beach, thats a thought.  I'll have to figure something out to make that happen..Mack
Reply:That   ain't    too    slouchy. That is a lot better than a lot of pros turn out. I guess if you turn out that kind of work you are a pro.
Reply:I just repaired one of those a few weeks ago, it split right in the middle.  It was 2x3x1/8 tube so I doubt you will have that problem.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Thanks all, oldtimer I am no pro at this stuff, but I try to put a bit of pride in my work.  This is the first one of these that I have built so it took me longer than I wanted it to so if I charged for all my time..........DSW, diving was great, no manta rays(of course).  viz was about 15 meters today but a little green.  But still a blast.Mack

Reply:Mack,You ran the 7014 DC? I have not done that. I have burned hundreds of pounds of 7014 but I used AC. Easy rod for sure. I can say that of all the rods I have used 7014 was the most I have ever used. Tell me a little more about the DC. Did it run better than AC?Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I'm not Mack but I can tell you this. DC is always smoother than AC, even with AC rods. The exception is in deep corners or with magnitized metal where you have arc blow.
Reply:I bet that white carpet is bitch to keep clean.

Reply:Hey Joker,I use mostly 7014 DC.  I like that rod, seems to work good for me.  I mostly weld DC because for years all I had to weld with was a little Onan powered welder that I bought for 15 bucks at a yard sale.  They said it did not run, and it didn't till I straightened out the wiring at the coil and points.  Started right up after that.  I have not welded AC much at all.  DC seems to weld smooth for me.  And honestly I tried to weld 7014 with the AC setting on my buzz box and I did not see much difference but I flipped it back to DC and left it there.  I really like welding this rod with my SA 200.  RiceburnerThat white carpet just went away, don't know what happened to it....Mack
Reply:Jolly RodgerI did catch the compliment from oltimer and from you. ThanksMack
