I would like to buy my fiance a nice leather welding jacket for Christmas. I have not a clue on what company is good quality. I have heard a lot about Miller from him (he has some tools from them) I was thinking about the 3rd jacket down on this page (black) http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...lding_jackets/Any advice? He works in a shop also welds at home. He does mig, tig, stick. We live in Colorado so it can get pretty cold. His company gives him the green cotton jackets but I want to buy something more durable for him he says he goes through the greens pretty quickly. Budget is about $200Thank youBiancaLast edited by caruso; 12-08-2009 at 06:07 PM.
Reply:The full leather black stallion coats are good in my opinion, i have the green full leather and black stallions "hybrid" coat which is leather sleeves and the green material for back and chest, but it is blue not green. Around here black stallion carries a good name and there not too expensive. I have never personally seen one of the miller coats, but I would guess they are of good quality as well. The full leathers will keep fairly warm with a longsleeve shirt under it. They are an excellent wind block, but they are heavy.Miller Dynasty 300dxSpeedglas 9002XMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeLincoln PowerMig 255xtLincoln PowerMig 140cMilwuakee Portaband

Reply:The black leather Miller one is nice. Does he work outside much? I have the blue cotton Miller one that I use for going back and forth to the garage (-10C here right now) but I don't think any of these would be any good for actually working outside.
Reply:No he doesn't work outside. He works inside a shop. He at one point told me wanted a leather welding jacket which is why I am looking for one for him. He said the general green cotton jackets don't last very long at work for him. He welds for most of the work day. I just wanted to know what is good quality in the welding world to make sure I am not going to throw my money down the drain =)
Reply:I like the Tillman Firestop coats, these have leather sleeves and FR cotton fronts and backs. He'll be happy with these as the sleeves are usually what go first, and the FR cotton will keep him from getting too hot, versus a full leather coat, but a full leather coat would be the way to go if he's doing a lot of stick welding, or arc gouging.
Reply:I second the recommendation for Black Stallion. They are indeed very nice jackets. http://www.revcoindustries.com/catal...oat-p-170.htmlTough Weld has them for $99.Last edited by DesertRider33; 12-08-2009 at 06:47 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:The one I'm talking about is the smooth pigskin light weight one in pic in my post above. They're very comfortable and not so heavy like the regular suede split cowhide jackets.I just looked a little more and Buy Weld has them for $82.The one in your ebay link is the heavier split cowhide one.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I'll have to look and see what brand mine is. What I look for is that the shoulder area has a lining, nor for warmth but without a split cowhide jacket is kinda hard to pull on. I like the extra weight of a split cowhide jacket, except in the heat of summer. I like the full leather jacket so when I have to set under somethingI can open the jacket and drape it over my lap, guys will know why.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:i have a Radnor full leather i bought at my local airgas for about 60 buck, its lasted two year iwork indoors and out and its the only jacket i wear, very comfortable,i use it for stick, mig,and grinding still in good shape itll probably last another two years unless my belly grows out of it.

Reply:Im a big fan of my full leather black stallion jacket, its split grain cowhide and very well made, fits like a charm and quite soft.Ive also been eying up a tillman onxy series if this one ever wears out.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Ok I have narrowed it down to 2 jackets. This one http://www.airgas.com/browse/product...&WT.svl=442105 or this one http://store.buyweld.com/30pwc-bkl.htmlThey both come out to be around $90 or so with shipping so price is not a concern. Is cow or pig skin better quality?Last edited by caruso; 12-09-2009 at 04:34 PM.
