Good source for plans?

Folks, I am looking to build a dump bed for a tandem truck sometime this spring or summer.  I would like to have it up and operational by fall to haul corn and soybeans on.  I have looked into buying a bed, but that was about $15k for a 20' bed.  I could copy a bed I like, or just do as I normally do and figure it out myself, but I would really like to find a good blueprint I could buy with materials lists etc.  Does anyone know of a good source for plans and blueprints for truck beds, trailers, etc?

Reply:What have you built in the past?  Where did you get your plans?Also are you planning on all new materials or do you have a source for scrounged materials? When you build something from old parts, scrap, cast offs, or "good junk"; your design will by necessity reflect the parts you have at the time you do the work.An example would be the trailer body I saw that was made from an old boiler shell.Good Hunting, on finding plans with the bill of of materials to build a tandem dump trailerI doubt you will find someone to do the R&D and then almost give away their plans.. The figuring out how to do something for the first time is usually much more difficult than just putting something together.

Reply:I don't have any plans, but some of our older truck bodies on our farm are simply 2x? box tubing or c-channel main rails (hinged at the rear). Then C-channel cross rails 8 - 8 1/2 feet long at 90º to the main rails and on top of them. Cover with plate of an appropriate thickness. The sides and ends are supported by uprights welded (or bolted if they are to be removeable) to the c-channel. Newer style truck bodies are a little harder to do in the home shop, as they seem to be going to plate formed into special rails, etc. for cleaner look, lighter (more payload), etc.Andrew
