Where to Buy Springs

I'm not sure where to post this, but from what I gathered this catagory will work.I'm looking for a couple springs for a project.  Very similar to this.  I just need them to have have some sort of rating I can go by.  In other words, they excert say 200lbs of resistance.Or along those lines.Anyone know where I can get them?  These are off a chipper, but not strong enough.

Reply:home depot sells garage door springs that look similar. you may be able to buy one and cut it in half, not sure what the different ratings were

Reply:Brendon, best bet is to measure the length of the coils, and the hooked ends. Count the coils, and measure the diameter of the coil as well as the thickness of the spring wire. From that, find a matching spring to get a known strength. Upgrade in SMALL increments. Every little change in a spring will have massive amounts of change in spring function, strength, and it's durability.For instance, say that spring has a 20lb pull on it. That means, for every 1" of stretch put on the spring, you generate 20 lb to extend it. 40lb @2", 60lb@3" and so on. Is the spring designed to stretch only 1", or how far does it go? This will dictate a different material in many cases, or a spring hardened to certain specs.Get it wrong by a little bit, and you'll bend or break parts prematurely, or break springs. Get it really wrong, and you'll see stuff torn to pieces in rather nasty fashion.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
