HiDoes anyone remember an "old" O/A torch that had a roller valve in the handle that would shut off both Oxy and Acet at the same time? My neighbor had one growing up but I dont know what it was. It made relights a breeze. Maybe they aren't safe and thats why ya dont see em much.Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.
Reply:Assuming there aren't other makes out there, you are probably looking for a Harris 18-series handle. I have an 18-3, think an 18-4 superseded it, and assume the predecessors were similar. The handle has a screw to adjust the pilot light when using welding tips; the main flame is reduced to the pilot when the control is rotated, restored when the control is returned open.  I can't remember if the pilot also works when using the cutting attachment or  if I just don't have it adjusted open enough for that.Someone here posted a link to a site which had schematics and part lists for various torches, which would have showed how it is made -- but I didn't bookmark the spot. The Harris site likely has some more information about it.
Reply:I think they maybe stopped selling those but I'm sure I could be wrong.  I think Sears Craftsman used to have one. I think too many people would put the torch down and sometimes the pilot light would go out and then they would have a torch that is leaking.  Waiting for the BOOM.If you have a problem lighting your torch, don't worry after you light it about 50,000 times you will get the hang of it. Those torches do have their uses but they might be outlawed on some job sites. Something to do with OHSA maybe. (I'm not sure, just saying) - man those guy's just do not like a good explosion.-
Reply:Thanks for your help. Now to find one...I dont have a problem lighting my torch. Just figured it might be nice for cutting scrap. Also think its a neat torch and ya cant ever have too many tools. Especially neat tools with cool features none of your buddys have.Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.

Reply:Harris now makes the 18-5 handle.  The parts for the 18-3 and 18-4 are no longer available. The Harris 18-5  list for $411.45The Harris 73-3 is the cutting attachment list for $294.58. They are very proud of them.If you can not find a good price at your LWS, we sell Harris Equipment for 40% off list price. Here is a link to Harris Web page for the 18-5.http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/e...odel-18-5.aspxOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:They also make the 50-9 handle with the pilot light feature:http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/e.../Model-50.aspxIf you want to knock down the price, buy the new handle from OADoctor and a used cutting attachment from Ebay or wherever. If it leaks, having OADoctor go through it is still cheaper than a new one.A bit of reading the Seal Seat catalog will help figure out what cutting attachment numbers fit as opposed to only those currently offered. Also think its a neat torch and ya cant ever have too many tools. Especially neat tools with cool features none of your buddys have.
Reply:Wow i would have never guessed they were still being made. Im gonna keep my eyes open for those models. Thanks for your help.Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.
Reply:Hey OP - I have a Harris 50-9 and a 50-10 for sale (50-9 is designated for oxyacet and 50-10 is for alternate fuel gasses).  They are older and may need to be gone over by oadoctor as others mentioned.  Looking to get $50 each (would do both for $80) if you wanted.  For shipping would only ask that you cover the actual shipping cost. Thanks,Jon
