I just started welding maybe a month ago and besides blowing hole in all my works....I think I'm getting better.I have a AC/DC(ROCK ON!) gas powered welder.the whole reason that I bought the welder was to do wrought iron fencing thinking that I would just buy a book on it.to my dismay.....their are none! Hopefully I'm looking in the wrong places.Does anyone know where I can get my hand on some materials (books,tapes,etc...)If not then can any one tell me the best rod for doing the job?
Reply:what machine?
Reply:Beginning welding books can be bought all over the web. Try a search on them. I think Lincoln has some on there website if you look. The main thing is to get the basics down and understand what you are doing with the welder before you start tackling jobs. as far as ornamental fencing I would use a 6013, 7014, or a 7018, mainly because the welds will look better when done properly. ~Good luck Jackson

Reply:are you sure its wrought iron. Most of the newer, like 60's is probably just steel. But They also make wrought iron too. Which is harder to weld, and can be made up of different metal combinations. especially it if is forgien.
Reply:Well I'm not totally sure what the composition is but it probably steel. Now that I think about it the place has the word steel in it's name.I'm still just looking for techniques for doing the fencing.
