Today My dad and I did this job.  We were like 2 boys playing.Old bushings.   Right one is broken, left is bent.Scarfed the old ones out, 5/32 or 3/16" carbon in the arcair, 250 amps.Spent some time with a sledge hammer,  grinder and die grinder.  Tacked each piece in 4 places, welded in 2 passes downhill....Yeah I did it.  .035 wire 92/8 gas 350 ipm, pulsed spray.I can pull the pin out with my hand.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Nice piece of work David.  Did you fabricate the new bushings also, or were they ready made?  Any idea what they're made of?Last question; Did you weld the bushings with the pin in place, or did you just use it to align them while you tacked them up?Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Your supposed to be takin it easy!!!Nice jobYup
Reply:Thank you,  My dad helped.  The pin and bushings were supplied by the customer.  I lined them up with the pin in.  Tacked the heck out of em then welded opposite sides checking the pin.  Everything was good until I put the second pass on (hot). Then I couldn't move it.  Once it cooled I could take it out with my hands.  The pin doesn't move in those bushings.  They got a new cylinder rod and I measured it.  I left 1/16" on each side.Edit:  The pin is held in from one end.DavidLast edited by David R; 04-23-2008 at 06:42 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
