I have a miller 130 xp machine and i use it on my stock car where most of the metal thinkness is 1/8 or less i tried welding some 3/16 and with the machine turned all the way up and my wire speed set at 65 to 70 and .030 wire the weld looks like its just sitting on top of the base metal like it didnt penetrate into the base metal so i put it in a press and the metal started to bend and then the weld broke it didnt penetrate into the base metal. Is there anyway to weld 3/16 with maybe .035 wire or do i just need a bigger machine .Thanks for any help...Joe
Reply:Welcome to the forum, Joe What kinda wire you using? I have the same machine and using 030 flux core nr 211 can weld 3/16 all day. Make sure your power supply is good. No 100' of #14 cord. Also, I think there are rules re; stock cars and flux core welds. some one bail me out here?
Reply:I would try the .023 wire with CO2. With my 110 volt mig It seemed to get better penetration with the smaller wire running straight Co2. The flux cored will weld with alot more penetration, but I am not sure as to the regulations TEK mentioned. Also make sure you bevel the joint out. It will help with the penetration. ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man...... |
