This is an old bandsaw that has been kicking back in the garage for quite some time. I really want to build it to be able to work properly. The drive motor is missing(I heard that the stock ones were way underpowered anyhow), so I plan to mount a bigger motor. Everything else seems to be in order, I was just wondering if anyone else here has done anything similar to one of these Carolina bandsaws.Last edited by Mark...; 08-02-2008 at 06:14 AM.
Reply:Not me..But be sure to take pics of the reincarnation.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Might want to read through Cutter's thread over on Shop Talk Forum:Carolina Tool & Machinery - Bandsaw http://shopfloortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6263Mike
Reply:Hey, I've got that exact same saw. I got mine for free from a shop that was going out of business (I actually bought a drill press and some metal and they threw the saw in for nothing). It cuts straight as an arrow, it just looks like hell, and it fits in with the rest of the decor. Good luck with yours!Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!
Reply:Hi, I have this model wich is probly pretty simillar.I also have the operator's manual with parts breakdown.Let me know if there's anything I can help you with.Ive had no problems with the original motor. My hydro strut is shot, so I have a counterweight that is adjustable. somethimes I need to babysit the cuts, to save on blades. Good luck, it's not a bad saw for its cost.Brian Attached Images

Reply:Thanks everybody. From the input I got from you guys I decided that I would go ahead with getting it running. I want to get everything in working order before I do any cosmetic work to it.
Reply:Mark I have your saw in green. I have replaced the motor when the fuznuts at work bound the blade and cooked the motor. I don't remember what motor we got as a replacement. I'll take a look and shoot you the info if I get a chance tomorrow nite or friday.MWF I'll Pm you. I'd like to get a copy of your book if posible.
Reply:DSW, PM replied.I got a feeling that my saw may be a newer or bigger model than 'ya'll's.I use 120"x1" blades. One HP motor with speed pulleys. Plus the cooling system.I will gladly share the book on it, I know how much trouble I had trying to find info on it.The saw was bought by my previous employer where we did millwright shopwork for the conveyor industry, my old foreman got it when they went out of business. Sold it to me when I opened Moore Welding- my shop- for $400...4 months later, he walks in with the manual.Carolinas were sold out of pick up trucks by traveling salesmen, known as The Traveling Irish....Why? I dont know why they're called that. You'd get the saw, a press and some other tool for a cheap package price.Ya, I did a bunch of web research in the 4 months before I got the book. I will try to get the book scanned by the weekend.Brian
Reply:I am pretty sure that the saw that I have uses a 3/4 inch blade. I wonder if your book still has useful info for mine?  Maybe helpful for me as well.
Reply:I just got one of those saws that looks like it's between the sizes of those two saws, uses 9.5', 3/4" blades. I just ordered a new blade as the old rusty ones that came with it are pretty much junk, it will make a fairly straight cut with them even though they are missing teeth. I'll try to post a pic of it later.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
Reply:I took pictures of the manual pages, I wont be around this weekend to hook up the copier. They came out good and are posted here, on Photobucket. Only 8 pages.http://s24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ina%20Bandsaw/This is for the red and grey saw pictured above. Good luck, guys.Moore Welding & FabricationEvansville [email protected]
Reply:I found the manual for mine inside the main tubing, in the end with the adjustable leg. It cuts good except my motor is giving up.Jim
