I am planning to enroll in a welding training school in my place. As I was asking the admin staff about the modules what they offer, he presented me five separate modules and he insisted that the SMAW (shielded Metal Arc Welding) is the "highly recommended" course for me since I am a beginner (don't have any experience yet). When I reviewed the prospectus at  home, one of their modules they offer is GTAW - SMAW combination.which one do you think should take?             SMAW  -                   $ 874.548 USD for 45 days / 360 hoursGTAW - SMAW combination -  $ 460.297 USD for 12 days / 96 hoursDo you think in 6-day period I will be able to learn SMAW and another 6-day for GTAW if I take the combination for 12 days than stay for 45 days in SMAW alone?Thank you guys in advance, your insights and advices may depend on the next step I take.
Reply:I would think the 12 day course is to prep for certification for an experienced welder. Reply:What equipment do you have at home to practice with? An oxyacetylene torch? A stick machine? 75-85% of what you do will be hands on practice. A good bit of homework by a student who is eager to learn will go a long way toward filling the 15-25% remainder. And the only cost is your gear, books and sweat-equity. Even a senior professor has told me that employers are more concerned with what I can do, than what paper has my name on it. (With regard to welding.) I don't know what price has a three digit decimal place in it, but I care not for student loan debt, no sir! City of L.A.
