Hey guys what do I need to weld aluminum with this machine? Can I use the existing liner and just change the tips? The liner I have now is for .035 steel wire. I'm looking to weld at least 3/16" to 1/4" aluminum. Will I need pure argon or can I use my 75/25 mig mix?
Reply:You have to use pure argon, You can get .035 aluminum wire, but I think you will find you are going to spend more time trying to keep the wire from birdnesting at the drive wheels than you will welding. pushing aluminum wire through a liner is a pain. A spoolgun or a push/pull setup is the only way to weld aluminum with wire satisfactorilywith out it getting aggravating. Reply:What Hammack said.I tried what you are wanting to do a long time ago. It don't work. If you are going to do it you will have to change the liner. I did every thing you are suppose to do and even cut my lead down to 6' long. Kept it perfectly straight while welding and still had to stop every 2 minutes to get the wad of wire out of the drive wheels.Yes I can tack it for you. I know that won't hold but that is what you asked me to do. Millermatic 350P XR Aluma-Pro push/pullMillermatic 185/spool gunMiller Dialarc 250 HF Water cooledThermal Dynamics Plasma |
