I need some help! I bought a used century 110 mig welder awhile back to do some tack welding and to learn on, well last weekend was the first time I've got to use it and while welding it started to make a clicking noise then the breaker clicked off I thought I was up against the duty cycle and let it set for about an hour, now when I turn it on the fan will blow but nothing from the feed and it wont srrike an arc. I'd like to get it fixed but I don't want to tie up much money in it. I need a 110 welder so I can run it off my motorhome generator on wheeling but would like to get something bigger for the shop
Reply:I have a little Century welder also mine is a 135 amp machine.  You might be able to get ahold of someone at Lincoln to help you do some trouble shooting. I am not sure but it might be your circuit board in the welder. Problem is with those little welders it don't take long to crank up a pretty good bill when having one worked on. I had the circuit board replaced in mine once and I beleave it was a total of about $160.00 or so by the time you pay for the circuit board and about an hour and a half of shop time to have it diagnosed and replaced. Mine still never has worked as good as it did before the circuit board went south on it. Something you might want to think about before you go to spending $160.00 or so on it is if you put a little more with that  you could pick up a decent Hobart, or Lincoln welder with a 3 year warranty. If you put $160.00 or so on the old Century it is only warrantied on the part for as long as they would take care of it which will probably be 30-90 days.
Reply:You might just look to see if there are any fuses that got toasted.  Most boards are protected by a fuse of some sort.  Your manual may have schematic info about where it might be.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I just checked my owners manual for my Century and it states that if nothing works except the fan that it could  be either the trigger on the gun or a faulty transformer which it shows as a rare case.
Reply:If that's the case, you should be able to test by connecting together the two wires that go to the trigger.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Exactly that would eliminate the trigger switch for sure if it didn't make any difference when the wires were momentarily connected.
