Snowblower

This came in about a month and a half ago.  He said "take your time, we dont need it till winter".    Today I got after it and have it almost finished.I have to replace the 3/8" X 4" piece that holds the cutting edge on.After I scarfed off the old edge.  1/4" arcair @ 300 ampsIts worn pretty good.  I put a 1.5 x 1.5" x 3/16" angle over this.  It fit perfect.The holes were included in the quote.  I just laid the new cutting edge over the piece of stock and marked them with a center punch.This WAS the wear barLast edited by David R; 05-28-2008 at 10:16 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:That guy is lucky to have your full dedication, doing it slowing can means better weld and job as you are not bug by other work...I bet the job would start flowing in and stop your nice holiday...Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...

Reply:What did he do, wear out the cutting bar then the bar it bolts to? Maximum mileage I guess. Thanks for the pics.
Reply:Yes.  Its on a bobcat, so the operator can lean the blower forward and scrape the ground with even the auger (which is missing a couple of inches too).  Its been abused.  I am not the first one to replace the bar that holds the cutting edge on it.  The last one was humped up in the center which is one reason is was worn more on the ends.  I figured a day's work and some plate.I offered to put the auger in my positioner and build it up.  They said no thank you.   Woulddabeenfun!I'll take a pic before it ships today.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Looks like a nice repair job you're doing.It also speaks well of you when the customer has said: "take your time, we dont need it till winter" and you're working on it a season ahead. (is it late fall up there, or early summer?)All too often when you say something like that, you wind up hoping you'll get it by Spring!

Reply:I wondered if the auger had worn as well, from the amount down on the side plates. I think they definitely need some shoes on it to limit travel. Most likely the wear comes from an operator that doesnt understand that you don't have to clear everything to black pavement with the blower.
Reply:DSW, it has shoes, they are paper thin.  The problem is the operator can tilt the whole blower ahead so it scrapes the concrete better.  I bet there is an inch or so missing from the auger.  I offered to build it up, they said no.I quoted that job at a day.  It took a little longer.  I stuck to my quote.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I think your doing a good job but I'm not sure. One thing that I know I've never worked on is a snow blower. I cant even tell how it works. But hey, it did snow here year before last though. It looks good though----I think.
