Hello yall i need some advice. There are two local stores that sell either miller our lincoln. I was gona get the thermal arc 185 but since i will use this machine allot and will be my profession i plan on getting somthing better. I want to get a good tig/arc welder and narrowed it down to these two. Which one will be a better choice? Also will it be okay to run a air cooled torch our will i have to upgrade to a water cooled one? I will be using the machine for all sorts of things aluminum/stainless-tig welding and allot of arc welding as well. So which one is the better one to get?? Lincoln invertecV205 our Miller dyansty 200DX?
Reply:I hope somone answers soon. Im gona go out to buy the welder today. Either the V205 our dynasty200dx. Just dont want to make any regrets on the purchase
Reply:The trick question, try both!
Reply:Just don't look back.  Buyer's remorse is a cruel trick.  No matter what you buy, you will always wonder if you did the right thing.  I dont know much about either machine personally, but they both are pretty nice machines based on other people's comments I have seen.  Why not see if there is a local distributor that has both miller and lincoln and try out both, like wirehunt suggests.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Well went around both of the shops today and the Thermal arc 185 is out of the picture. Its down to the lincoln invertec v205 our dynasty200dx. Got the price quote with everthing i needed with a tank of argon, there both around the same price 3800 so i decided to think about the two. It took me awhile to save up this money and I want to make sure i get the better one of the two. Im not too sure if i can try out the machines before i buy them.
Reply:I have the Invertec and use the hell out of it. Great machine that makes great welds. The pulse I use frequently for marine stainless out of position. The 110 v is a real plus in remote locations. I highly recommend the hand amptrol. I almost use it more than the foot control being the unit is so portable. I am sure the Miller is a good unit also... but lately I've been seeing a lot of red.

Reply:Yeah, I am curious to.  The TA185 appears to be a really strong competitor with these other welders, mainly because of the cost differential for that extra 15 to 20 amps.  Of course, TA has a 300 amp (ac/dc) version that is quite a bit more expensive, but not that much more than the two you are looking at with 200 amps +or-.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:You might want to consider an HTP Invertig 201.  $2295 for an air cooled package w/torch, pedal and flowmeter, and $2795 for a water cooled package.  That would save you about $900 by the time you add shipping.http://www.usaweld.com/products/tig_welders/tig201.html
Reply:The Lincoln will run off of 120VAC?  I don't think the Miller does.  In my mind, this is a bonus. At some point in the not-so-near future, I'm going to get a small AC/DC squarewave unit, so this is definitely a consideration.-Heath
Reply:I just had to make a 110v cord for it out of some spare Romex and I am welding. I easily usually get 160 amps in 110v mode, more than enough most of the time especially being an inverter. The unit even comes with a shoulder strap to carry it around!Invertec V205-T AC/DC For TIG and Stick WeldingList Price:3115.00 (USD) *See Details K1855-1 Invertec V205-T AC/DC 115/230/1/50/60The Invertec V205-T AC/DC is a compact, TIG power source intended for critical AC or DC TIG welding. Reply:Well i made the my final decison and purcahsed my welder a couple days ago and i am happy with my choice. I was gona get the Lincoln V205 our T/A185. But decided to go with the Miller dyansty 200dx the warrany and repair will be honored at the welding supply shop that sold me the welder, the other places reiquired i send it out for any warranty work, if that ever happend and, it came down to testing the machines but the lincoln and thermal arc dealers didnt let me try out the machine i love dynasty200dx is one the best welders i welded with and its made in the USA.Thank you everyone. I am so happy and proud that i finaly purcahsed the welder
Reply:Wouldn't let you try it out!?  Man, that's too bad.  I hope they are reading this thread and wondering if they might have made a sale if they had just let you take a test drive...as for gocirino's post, that's amazing your machine can get 160 amps out of a 110 outlet.  What size breaker is that on?  I gotta get me one o' those.  My miller dialarc 250 came with a shoulder strap also.  It's just made of a log chain.Last edited by smithboy; 11-03-2005 at 10:56 AM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
