Reply:For being at the right place at the right time, I scored over 8,000 pieces of the Red Oak profile at 36.5" long. My company had paid $.85/piece 4 years earlier, but had lost the customer. Once the oak was written off the inventory, it was fair game. If nothing else, it makes great firewood for my workshop.I agreed to work 2 days during the X-mas shut down to develop a new plant equipment layout. The plant manager told me there was an overshipment on a T-slot extrusion and I could take what I wanted. I grabbed it all and got 290 pieces at 160" long. We had paid over $15 per lineal. I've been selling drops left over from projects on Ebay for about $10/foot. Attached ImagesThere are no small projects
Reply:I dropped my daughter off at work and noticed a very large dumpster full of old display stands. She got the OK from Macy's and I got several hundred #s of chrome tubing in many sizes.
Reply:Let's see...For two cases of beer I scored enough tubing to put radiant heat in my shop floor and sell the extra to pay for the boiler and circulating system.Scored a wood planer for free when the previous owner knocked it out of adjustment, bought a new one rather than mess with it, and gave me the old one "if I thought I could fix it."
Reply:Dang, and I thought that being able to buy drop steel at work for two cents a pound was a killer deal. Some of you guys have done alright. Sounds like "being in the right place at the right time" still pays off.I'm a man.But I can change. If I have to.I guess... |
