I have been using a mig welder for some time now...but I just bought and oxy/act setup and I need to know what filler rods I should use....I need to weld some mild steel on a old Volkswagen that is too thin to use my mig. Thanks for any suggestions....or links to this information.
Reply:Just get copper coated (wont rust) mild steel rod from your gas supplier or hardware store. ACE , Home Depot, Lowes all carry a limited stock of welding supplies. Good luck and practice.
Reply:Hey Thanks for the reply....I looked at Home Depot last night...I saw the copper ones...I did not realize they were just copper coated. But the label said you had to use some type of flux with it....Then I looked a flux coated ones...then I got confused....
Reply:That is brazing rod. Brass not steel. Ask the clerk to find the welding rod. It should be the color of a new penny. Also for welding sheetmetal you will need a fairly thin rod.
