6010 root

hey all.I am wondering how some of you manage to get reinforcement on the ackside of a 6010 root.  im back in school doing my  second block of my apprenticeship training and we are running 6010 5p+ and i can only get my penetration flush.   the instructor is fine with it.  I can run a good root its just that the penetration is flush with the backside and im wondering how i would get reinforcement if it was required ?Oh and I have done a search didnt really find what I wanted.   I use a whip technique for my roots....thanks
Reply:Burn that stuff in there!! I like to jam the rod into the square groove (I'm assuming thats what you're doing) and you'll hear it shoot through the back, its kind of a blowing sound... Then pull it back out to the face, and repeat. Once you have a small hole formed, do the whip and pause, but with a really long whip. If the hole starts to get too big, than the plate is heating up (turn down machine a little) and/or whip faster. If your keyhole is on the left side of the groove, angle the rod to the left some, and vise versa...[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:I generally get too much reinforcement. Maybe try pointing the rod back towards puddle, away from the direction of travel, and slow down just a touch.  3 inch and above I like a 3/32 inch land, with 3/32 inch gap, with 1/8 inch rod. 2 inch pipe I like 3/32 inch land and 1/16 + gap, with 1/8 inch rod. Reply:I have found that if you jump your amperage up about 5 amps you can run the rod right in there and just work it up and down. In and out of the key hole. You might try that if you have some plate you can fit up and practice on. I know how much of a pain it is to fit pipe.
