I was asked to install a ladder at the NEW local napa store.  I looked at the job a few times and had a hard time coming up with a good mount for the bottom.  I went to the store with a shelf built of 1/4" plate wide enough to lag into 3 studs in the wall behind where the ladder mounts.  WELL, the studs are metal, so my (6) 3" X 5/16 lags were useless.  Back to the shop and try again.  I cut 2 pieces 1.5 X 1.5 X 24" to go on the sides and one piece 2 X 2 X 1/4" X 47 to cross the middle.  The whole mezzanine is made of racking of some sort.I welded the short pieces on the sides and went across the middle with the heavier angle. This is no great job.  The best part for me is I used the V155-S.  One of the reasons I bought the machine was for this job.  I used 125' of 12 gauge extension cord and some #10 cord.  I don't have enough leads to go that far.  The V155-S was plugged into my ranger 250 on 220 volts. This is where the bottom of the ladder goes.  8 5/8" from the wall.Top, I drilled and bolted it with 3/8" grade 8 boltsThis was welded flat, thin to thick.  55 amps, no foot pedal. These welds were done literally standing on my head, over head welds, again thick to thin.  Still 55 or 60 amps.  1/16" S-6 filler, 1/16" Red tungsten.Last edited by David R; 06-22-2008 at 04:20 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:This is the cross piece.  This is the ladder welded to the cross piece.  Flat fillet and vertical up fillet.  Machine was turned all the way up for these welds.  NO foot pedal, so I have to pull the torch away quickly then hold it back on the weld for gas coverage.I chose tig because there was too much chance of starting a fire with stick.ALSO, this job is the one that paid off the machine.   I have had it a month and it paid for its self!  ITS ALL GRAVY FROM HERE!I have officially named it my Fischer Price Welder.David Last edited by David R; 06-22-2008 at 04:17 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
