I intend to stamp 3/8" thick stainless plate with 4mm tall letters using a punch set.  I want to fill them with a bright, silver colored solder that will stay put and then polish the entire surface flat to a mirror finish. Can someone recommend a solder and application procedure?  I would prefer not to discolor the stainless from heating excessively and thought about using some kind of finely ground tin dust and epoxy but I would rather use metal if possible. Thanks in advance for your advise.
Reply:Any discoloration will buff off during the polishing process.  I think silver solder is what you are looking for.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 01-29-2006 at 01:30 PM.
Reply:Last time I used 45% silver solder it was bronze colored.   Zelenak I wish I knew what you were talking about.  I envision you punching small letters (alphabet) into stainless steel then filling them with material that matches the stainless finish.  How will contrast be obtained?  What type project do you have going?  Got my curiosity up.
