Here's some pics...of an ATW intercooler we made for a drag truck.this is our first (real) attempt at welding aluminum, so please critique the quality f the welds, and offer suggestions. The material was 1/4" 3030 aluminum, Miller Syncro200 @170-200amps, 4043? filler, 100% argon.pressure tested to 70psi, & passedtack uphttp://good-times.webshots.com/photo...28508132Lpamsufinishedhttp://good-times.webshots.com/photo...28508132dPrdMxclose upshttp://good-times.webshots.com/photo...28508132NIaysihttp://good-times.webshots.com/photo...28508132MmRoMtinstalledhttp://good-times.webshots.com/photo...28508132WjIiWClooking forward to hearing some tips for next time.thanks~DaveLast edited by golfer; 07-10-2008 at 02:56 PM.Millermatic 251Syncro 200
Reply:the welds look ok....and how much did that thing weigh?
Reply:The stock ATA cooler was ~25lbs, this one weighs 40lbs...plus another 80 in ice/water...minus the heat/ac...The truck weighs a bit more than 7,000lbs... I think if we get it down <6400 it'll be in the low to mid 11's.On the stock ATA intercooler, we've run a best of 12.16. Millermatic 251Syncro 200
Reply:The design has me puzzled. Why not make an air/air cooler? I assume you'll use coolant and that's at least 70C, outside air is much less (but hasn't got the same cooling capacity). Besides that you'll have some free flow towards the rad which you need because of the demand for more cooling capacity.Where did you get the ally core?
