Any one familiar with and used this welder at all?How does it compare to the Millers and Lincoln etc.Looks like a simple one.http://www.htpweld.com/products/tig_welders/tig201.html
Reply:This particular welder is comparable favorably with a few others.  Namely, the Lincoln Invertec V205 (~$2400), the Miller Dynasty 200DX AC/DC (~$2500), and the Thermal Arc TA185TSW (~$1700).  I've seen it sell for $1900-2100.  It has adjustable frequency squarewave capability with adjustable balance and it also has pulse features.  This is atleast as sophisticated as comparable units in the marketplace, if not moreso.  It's got a bit more power than the Thermal Arc and supposedly has the best low-end of the group.  The only negative that I've ever seen anyone mention is the fact that HTP is less well-known than other manufacturers and folks worry about warranty service.  I've only read good things about HTP's service and they are pretty explicit about the fact that they can diagnose problems remotely and that parts are easily field replaceable by the user.  If this is true, I'd wager that this fact will get the welder back into service more quickly than any other method.  I've seen the internals of this welder and they are laid out spaciously making the total package a bit larger, but more easily serviced by the user. For what it's worth, I've decided to get myself a decent TIG 200A inverter TIG unit with my choices being limited to the ones described above.  When I have the funds, the HTP is going to be the one that I get.-Heath
Reply:I second that.Several folks here use them.  One of the sales reps (Jeff N...Nolan I think) is a member of the board...he is really helpful and not pushy at all.  I think it's him on ebay selling the demo units...so...I'll leave it at that.  Just search on invertig and look at the posts from a few months back.  There is a pretty long discussion on the pros and cons of the machine.  Not too many cons, though.  For the amps and the price, they are pretty hard to beat.http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...light=invertigSmithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:There's also a Chinese unit that smithboy mentioned a while back that's starting to hit the US.  I've seen it at around $1350 and I suspect that it's not going to sell very well at that price.  If it gets closer to $1k and it works well, I'm betting that people will start picking it up.  here's a link to one on ebay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7594654172-Heath

Reply:UGA AND Tech!!!...man, now I bet you made enemies everywhere you went...Is that why you had to leave ?  I am currently working at GA State...You know, the school without a football team.  I have been to and through all the places you mentioned (except AK).  I am was born in Haralson county, on the Alabama line.  I am from what's called the county.  Most folks I know these days are from a city or the suburbs of a city.  Not me.  I am from a spot between two areas, one named for a nearby church...corinth the other named for where the phone prefix changed a long time ago...district line.  Now, I only live 20 minutes from where I grew up.  All my family still lives in and around that area.I work in Atlanta (right down town at five-points/underground) and folks there dont even realize that rural areas still exist in GA.  To them, civilization stops at the perimeter...to me that's where it starts up.  My highschool baseball coach was from Warner Robins (kevin kinsler).  Really nice guy...he is now one of the coaches at his old highschool now.  We also used to have our VICA competitions down in WR, I bet at the votech school you are talking about.Small, Small world.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
