HI all, I have been lurking for over a year. Prior to Saturday night I HAD a Lincoln 175 Mig welder and hypertherm powermax 600 plasma cutter and a nice large oxy/acetylene set. A very quick extremely hot fire destroyed my ability to weld. (And a lot of other tools) While I am hoping for a HUGH insurance settlement and some upgrades, the reality is I may not have a ton of money to replace my stuff. I would like a more powerful Mig welder and I am considering a everlast multi process machine to gain Tig welding along with the plasma cutting. I guess I was wondering what you might recommend if you were in my situation? Is there any return value on my tanks or are they scrap?FYI I am partial to red over blue, but will always go for a better value.
Reply:Honesty don't waste ur money.I've Ben trying to get a working welder for almost a year.EVERLAST probley won't b around in five years to stand behind there product.I've told a fellow welder I bought a EVERLAST.he replied back 6a neverlast.that's when it hit home I probley got scamed
Reply:Maybe Tim could explain his inability to get the welder from Everlast? I don't have a multi-process unit, but I do own a 250EX Everlast and it tigs very nicely. This isn't my first tig welder (see my signature), but it was my first inverter based tig unit. I would say it took about a week to receive my unit from Everlast from the date I ordered it and, so far, no complaints. This last weekend I cranked it up to the full 250 amps to weld some fairly thick aluminum, while expecting to see the puff of smoke erupt from the case of the welder.... but that didn't happen. I know there are some strong opinions on the viability of the equipment and the company itself, but it's been a pleasure to own the 250EX so far. That's why, when I saw Tim's statement, I felt like I should give my own experience and, at the same time, ask Tim what he experienced to sour his opinion of Everlast.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma

Reply:I dont really want this to become a pissing match about Everlast. If the money is right I will probably get a 216 Lincoln Mig, a powermax 45, and a Lincoln square wave 175.But if the insurance is short I will be looking at other options including used and China multi process machines. Given the cost of new tanks and the declining need for torches, I will be buying them used off CL.I would like a lot of input from others to make an informed decision.
Reply:Just to reply.I'm glad to here that u had good luck with yours Doug.its Ben a year I've still yet to receive a working unit.when u go into the garage u just WAN to get the job done.not spend time on the phone and sending the unit back overtime u use it.it gets old after a year.welding to get done a machine that won't do it .frustrated beyond belief.
Reply:I ordered a pt250ex back on 2/22 and was told it would be in in 3 weeks. So today is the 3 week mark and nothing from Everlast. If I had sold something at told the buyer it would be in in 3 weeks and for some reason the date had slipped I would have made sure to call the buyer and let them know about the date slip along with the new ETA. Now from reading the forums sounds like Everlast did that in the past but the dates kept slipping. Seemed like Everlast was trying to turn things around and I took the chance. From looking online a bit more it looks like they are expecting the new shipment at then end of the month now. I then called to get a reading from them, I called to see when the 30 day money back guarantee started. The web site said it started from data of purchase, but in my case Oleg said it would start on the date it was shipped. No mention was made that the 3 week date was going to slip, so at this point I am hoping the welder shows up at the end of the month. 3 weeks ago I was not in any hurry to get the new welder, but I had sold my miller mig to offset the cost of the Everlast, and now work is starting to pile up.
Reply:Good luck.I've Ben waiting a year to get a welder that works more than five minutes.you should try to cancel ur order if u can.not the best people to deal with.

Reply:What do you mean "ignore him" The guy says he's been dealing with issues for a year...I personally dont put a lot of faith in shipping estimates, its never as soon as someone tells you. Unless its something small. In a perfect situation, you shouldve sold the Miller AFTER you recieved the new welder. I know that no situation is perfect...I have never owned, or used an Everlast, so I can not comment on the welders, or people behind them. In closing, the spelling and punctuation is dropping off quick these days, Im not perfect, but damn, I had to re-read some of these posts 3-4 times to try and decipher what the poster was trying to say!!Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:By the way...what caused the fire fflintstone??I would not buy used welding tanks or torches. Could cost you a fire ,explosion or your life and others unless you know the person very well.Having a oxy-actyelene torch is much more useful than a plasma cutter.A torch can bend as well as cut. Are you cutting a lot of non ferrous metals? The Victor Performer series size torches are perfect for most jobs.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 03-15-2011 at 06:16 PM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:I guess from what I'm understanding EVERLAST does not have to send u a working unit.they sell u a warranty.buyer beware.ask me ill tell u my story

Reply:About Everlast. They look interesting but time will tell. Many companies are only here about 3 years and then they are gone. Example: Airco, Pow Con, Uninor- later(Lincoln NC130),Sears,and many others. sorry guys , i never said that !!!Oleg [email protected]/650 588 8588 x201www.linkedin.com/pub/oleg-gladshteyn/48/b08/875

When you call will they answer the phone. When I call Miller ,a PERSON answers the phone every time, and quick too. That makes me trust them.

Reply:If I had a pocket full of money and had to buy equipment all over again, I'd probably get a used sync250 and something like my MM210 (the newer MM212 maybe). If you need portability or operation from 110v then I'd go for the dynasty200 and a MM211, but this setup will cost more and has lower power and/or duty cycles. This gives you stick, tig and mig capabilities. I have a thermaldynamics plasma and I would buy one again. I haven't used a hypertherm, but since you've owned one you know what you're getting. A lot of guys speak well about them. I've used my Dad's Miller spectrum2050. I only have a few minutes using that machine, but I couldn't tell much difference between it and my cutmaster81. Both cut better than my hand is steady. Several guys have complained about short comsumable life on the miller plasmas.I'm partial to blue over red, so I'm not up on what lincoln has to offer. As far as "not buying used bottles". What are you getting the first time you exchange for a refill? The LWS doesn't have a stock of shiny new bottles. They have whatever passes hydro.I would be really worried about using bottles that have been through a fire. How hot did they get? Did they burst the disk?If you get short on money, I'd buy the O/A over the plasma. The O/A will be cheaper and will do more than the plasma. I'd look for some cheap used tanks but buy new regulator,hose,torch,etc.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE

Reply:Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate all the ideas. Both valves popped, I have video but not until the settlement. The safety cap was on the oxygen but it burned a hole right thru it.Here is a photo of the tanks. Attached ImagesLast edited by fflintstone; 03-16-2011 at 10:33 PM.
Reply:Definitely a hot nasty fire seeing how the torch is sagging at one end.I'd second a used synchro from everything I've read over the last year or so but always be sure to check out used fully.I'll have to make sure insurance covers welding equipment when I get my own so thanks for the thread and thanks to others for the heads up about everlast. |
