Reply:no, the price is crazy high. Instead of answering my questions about the welder, he talked about the "custom made" cable hooks and the really nice AC outlets it has.
Reply:I've heard people call them both ways, and that's people that actually use them. I just call it "lead".
Reply:I call it a lead, but if i go to a welding shop to buy some i call it weld lead cable.
Reply:good enough, thanks for your input my friends.
Reply:I have heard many guys call them leads, I have always called them Cables for the past 30 something years
Reply:I have “cable” TV, does that help? Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Maybe lead is used and 2-3 bucks a foot and "CABLE" is new and shiny at 6-7 bucks a foot. LOL>? long as its not green inside it will work and is alway a pain to roll up at the end of a hard day no matter what you call it. Friend of mine said when he flies he takes a welding lead with him, if the plane goes bad he well jump out and the lead is bound to hook onto something on the way down and save him. Strange logic, huh.Last edited by kolot; 03-09-2011 at 02:40 PM."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400

Reply:Every body round here calls them leads only cable we have is for rigging and the tv.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:Thinking about it, I use both. It's cable on the spool which I am buying to use as my welding leads. If I am around another weldor, I use leads. Around everyone else I use cable. Funny, I never thought about it too much until now. And, around another weldor I use "work". Everyone else hears "ground"."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Don't know if I'm a 'real' welder, but when my cables/leads get wrapped around stuff, normally the wheel of the cherry picker or scissor lift, or start arcing up on floor grating when they catch a sharp edge or get trodden on, I'll call them lots of things, none of them good.

Reply:I call them that damn thing that is getting my welder cart tangled up and can't roll over.
Reply:oh you mean the sparky go melty hook up ?
Reply:I wonder why so many guys sell "Cable Reels"?Ever tried to buy welding leads on ebay.  Bet you have better luck searching for "welding cable".To me the actual "wire" is welding cable.  Once the connectors are installed, the wire becomes a "welding lead".Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I probably do not qualify as a "real welder" but I just checked my welding lead/cable.  The manufacturer printed right on the insulating jacket Direct Wire and Cable Welding Cable 2/0 600 Volt.  They failed to print the word lead anywhere on the cable.  I obviously use the two terms interchangeably.Larry "I feel for the man who cannot spell a word more than one way."  by Mark TwainLincoln AC225-SLincoln Weldpac 100 Miller Matic 180 (auto set)Miller Spectrum 375 ExtremeMiller Spoolmate 100Victor Super Range II

Reply:Welder, Ironworker feel off a building while welding. He held to his stinger and saved his life, back in the day. Before, we had to tie off with a harnass.

Reply:It all comes from a "cable" company here and is bought as such but becomes a lead when cut to length and fitted with terminals to suit the welder. Now if it's a power lead for running a grinder then that may also be called a "flex" an old term and more correctly used as a description for the lead from a tool or appliance or welder to the power point on the wall."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for."
