Does anyone have or know where I can get the Bucket seats and anchoring system for a Subaru Brat? I am looking for these items for a project I want to do with my 1995  Chev .S10 pickup. The idea is to install the seats in the bed of my truck for the kids to enjoy a night out at the drive-in movies and other activities. When Subaru first introduced the Brat, these seat systems were installed in the vehicle's bed. So any leads will be helpful.
Reply:I use to have a Brat, although it was the dumbest vehicle purchase I ever made. Those jump seats are nothing more than a simple tube frame with hard plastic seats and a couple of handles thrown in for the "cool factor". You could build a set fairly cheap. Other than that, my best guess would be searching junk yards
Reply:kepe is right, dumb idea. Everyone i know that had a Brat torched the seats out after a year or so. Check ebay maybe someone still has a pair. The tubing was like 1" and it was permament in the bed so you had to cut them out. The idea was to get the vehicles licensed as a car instead of a truck so thats why the seats, so if you removed the seats truck plates had to go on it...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun

Reply:The last set I saw on Ebay went for over $250... if you aren't restoring a Brat, get some boat seats for way less. I've got a one owner Brat, with fiberglass top & less than 40,000 on the clock... that has a showroom new set of those seats(don't think anyone ever sat in them),but I'm not stripping it out yet. Those seats are pretty cool...kinda like a rollercoaster ride at "Six Flags".

Reply:Now that you described your intentions... Have you considered a mini van bench seat arrangement? I bought two for $35 each in great condition with seatbelts attached. You could actually rob the floor mounts from a mini van and install them in the truck bed(or on a removable frame bolted to the bed) so the seat would be easily removable. You could do the same thing with buckets...the bench is just self contained and cheap at a wrecking yard. They come in all sizes and cover materials from full width to narrow... I bought them for antique truck seats one for a 1935 International & one for a flat fender Power Wagon.
Reply:Mudbugone, I'm ahead of you in using the mini van locking system ... The only thing I am using though is the tilt-out and locking mechanisms that allow the easy removal and installation of the seats. The rest I'll fab to fit the truck. In thinking this project futher, I might make the Frame, seats, and roll bar as a one piece unit so I can utilize the whole bed of the truck when needed to haul my motorcycles or whatever else needs hauling. This idea has been in the back of my mind for a few days, I'll just have to sit down and do a prototype design on paper to see if this is safe and feasable. One type of material I'm looking at using to keep the weight down and not compromise safety is aircraft grade alum. for the frame and roll-bar. And please note guys .. using the thick-walled tubing not the thin ones as the core specs. I'll have to research this one futher. I know that I'll catch some flak about the idea of using aircraft grade alum. instead of steel and the idea of a single unit assembly instead of installing the roll-bar directly to the truck bed . But like I said, it's just an idea, good or bad. Guys, give me your opinions on this.
Reply:I welded an older Bronco seat into the bed of my old Ford 1 ton and i rode in the bed from NE Ohio to Calif and i have to say it was quite fun...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:Get yourself some poly drag racing seats. Run about $70 each from SUmmit Racing or JEGS.
Reply:I second the poly buckets.(w use em in swamp buggies all the time ,they hold up to the abuse for years.) or try the fold and tumble rear seat from a jeep yj with hardware . it takes 2 minutes to take it out  and 3  minutes to put it back in. 100 bucks roughly used. good luck

Reply:Thanks for input guys! Keep 'em coming. I did some research for the seats and below is a link to summit racing. This is the style I am thinking of going with. Possibly with a "Y" harness to keep the kids secure during travel.http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=skuNow to sharpen the pencils and start designing the frame and roll bar around them.
