I have a Sync. 351 and have been using it for about 3 years. One thing I can find little information on is the arc balance control and Hi-Freq control. The manual gives very basic info on the balance control, but dosen't give any real world info. I have heard a couple people say use 70 for aluminum, how about for steel, or stainless? Is there some kind of rule of thumb? I have found no info to explain how the Hi-Freq intensity control works, or what to set it at and why.www.reliancemachine.com

Reply:I would like to add that when you are on ac hf and the wave is more on the negative side of the wave you will have more penetration for heavier aluminum.  When you go the other way you will get more cleaning action and less penetration.  The reason for this is that when the tungsten is on the negative side, 70 percent of the heat is concentrated in the work and 30 percent in the tungsten.  When the tungsten is on the positive side the relationship is reversed.
