Hello,I'm going to buy a mig unit and was wondering if the Hobarts are good units. I like the price that I can get one. I'm looking at the 140 or 180, I'm leaning towards the 180, anyone have and use one?David

Reply:I have the 135 and it works great!!!! Never had any problems with it, but miller is a tad better.
Reply:The miller uses copper windings. The hobart uses aluminum. Hence the weigt. Otherwise hobart is good. The differnce in the windings will vary I guess as an experience. Basically if you grew up on SA200 nothing but sa 200 ever good nuff. But if you started out on aluminum windings, you never knew no better you will prolly be just fine. For the purposes that most users interested in this size will need, the alum windings are fine. The copper just make the arc better. Its a big deal that aint a big deal. All depends on what youre doing and how critical you want to be. If you are trying to melt metal and make it stick, you'll be happy. If you want to make them fancy welds thjat you think the professionals make, you wont be happy. Course you wouldnt be happy if you really thought that and you looked at many welds that are made by "PROFESSIONALS" I think youll be most likely happy wiht your lil hobart. Keep it clean, blow it out often of dust and such. Use good quality wire, yes this is important. Doesnt have to be the best, just dont cheap out on it. Goes for everyone even those with the fancy red or blue machines. Run C-25, aka 75argon/25carbon dioxide shielding gas.Goood luckIF it Catches...Let it Burn |
