Hi Folks, I am new to gas welding and would really appreciate some guidance on nozzel sizes relative to metal thickness and appropriate fuel and oxygen settings. I am using Murex regulators/combi torch and intend welding/cutting mild steel? Fuel type is Oxy-Acetylene. Initially I will be working on 3mm mild steel but may progress to 6mm. I have completed 120 hours of both Tig and Arc welding and 60 hours of Mig welding and am completing my 60 hours of gas welding.Any help or charts would be greatly appreciated.Burnt fingers.
Reply:Tip sizes are specified by the manufacturer of the torch, as most manufacturers have their own specific tip sizes. A number 1 tip by Victor may be a totally different flame size than a number 1 tip by Harris, or Smith, or Murex. Look up Murex for a tip chart or cutting guide. Your instructor should be able to find comparison charts if available also. City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Not sure how your gauges are calibrated, in the USA it is psi, pounds per square inch. The link below may be better.
