We have a product that is powdered nickel that is infiltrated with a binder alloy of copper-nickel-zinc. The end product is about 60% nickel and the remainder is the binder. This is done in a mold at 2200F.We need to be able to put these pieces onto a steel tube that is 32" diameter so brazing is out. We need to be able to weld (stick, mig or tig) these to the steel (4130).We use nickel rods all the time but only as a cosmetic filler for out gassing voids. How will that weld to the steel? Could we do it with a MIG? We are using 7018 .060" flux core wire right now for our normal steel welding and alsio have a smaller machine with .030" solid.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Bill Short
Reply:How thick is the material for both the 4130 & the Copper Nickel Zinc-Nickel Powdered pieces, and what type of joint configuration are you using ?Respectfully,SSBN727"Run Silent...  Run Deep!!!
Reply:Either GTA weld it or if the parts are too thin, then solder the joint...Respectfully,SSBN727"Run Silent...  Run Deep!!!
