Hi from Turkei Dear welding peopleI need some help i think. Is there anyone knows any manufacturing code or standart which mentioned the weld fo two H-Beams together (some says "Z weld") . I can calculate the strength of the weld but someone asks me if i had any code or standards about this Z Weld, but i could not find.
Reply:Hi to you 2_rule! How do you want to connect them? end to end? T? can you make a sketch? Also what are the demensions of the beams? height, width, and length? What are you using the H beams for?ThanksI'm going to do the thing that God put Galen Beasley on this Earth to do:Have Salon quality hair and weld.Nothing like a good cup of coffee and the smell of 6010 burning in the morning. 971-204-3444 cell API ASME Structural NDT and Repair
Reply:to make it clear here i attached a simple sketch. It's end to end . I can ask for NPI 300 example. We will use electric arc welding. Actually to let contractor approve this action i need to show some documents. We need 8 meters NPI but i have 6meters and so i want to add 2 meters beam to 6 meters.[IMG][a href=http://goo.gl/mc9cY][/a][/IMG]you can see the sketch also with this linkhttp://i1104.hizliresim.com/2011/4/19/7197.jpg Originally Posted by galencwiHi to you 2_rule! Reply:i believe from the sketch you are on the right track. repairs to truck frames are designed similarly. if you can calculate the correct beams for the span and load, a two sided bevel full penetration weld is what you need.
Reply:I've spliced some beams like that for a runway beam for a 5 ton overhead crane, but I also put a fish plate on each side. Had one of our draftsman draw it up, and the only difference that I see is our draftsman made a radius in the webbing instead of the right angle you have. Gave the engineer a call to get it approved and signed off on. Sorry I don't have a code for you.
Reply:i dont have a code ethier but i would weld it like the sketch and also plate the joint on both sides and dill holes for some plug weldsWELD TO LIVE LIVE TO RIDEA bad welder blames his equipment, a good weldor can lay a perfect bead on any thing
Reply:Thanks all you for your attention i hope i can find a code for this
