Well we are starting out shut down at work very soon. Since changing the oil in the gear boxs always become a pain in the rear I decided to make something to speed it up. I took a piece of large pipe, capped the ends then added some pipe fittings so I could fill the tank, pressureize it , and shoot the oil into the gear box. The gear boxs are small so I didn't make a very big tank. I will fill the tank half way then add air to 30 psi. I hydro the tank to 125 psi with no leaks. I am going to add a 30 pst safety valve before using it. Here are some pic's. I welded this whole piece up with a Lincoln Sp100 plus.Last edited by jamlit; 10-02-2008 at 09:00 PM.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:Looks pretty good.  I have an SP100, love it.No leaks?David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Thanks DaveStayed at 125 psi for over an hour without one leak or problem. I must say I know the little welder is not rated for anything like this but it did a great job. I wouldn't recommend an beginner do something like thisthough.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:Did you do some sort of test run to see that 30lbs empties the tank then??  Be neat to have something like that with the shut off at the end of a filler hose seems like. Some easy finger tip control. Good idea there.
Reply:That's cool! I like it.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Joe, I owe you a beer for the sig!  David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Work smarter not harder.  Very nice.I would imagine 30psi is more than enough to empty 1/2 a tank.  If less pressure will do it that would reduce the discharge velocity and lessen the chance of the hose getting away when you find yourself all twisted around trying to reach that hard to get to fill hole.  Don't those pressurized brake bleeders only take 15psi and still empty a full 1 gallon tank?Good move on the safety valve.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Hey Jamlit, doesn't the wheel drive up there on the bridge crane sound kind of noisy?Ya it does. Here, let me give it a shot of oil!  Be sure to show us what 30psi will do when you crack the valve open!Last edited by denrep; 10-03-2008 at 12:03 AM.

Reply:Just wait till its empty and starts Spitting oil and air!  I can see it now, hose whipping around spewing gear oil everywhere!  You can't grab it because your hands are all gear oil and your glasses are covered with gear oil spray.  Maybe a short curved piece of copper on the end of the hose?David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:You laugh about the oil spray, but aspirating atomized gear lube is no joke and can land you in the hospital real fast!
Reply:Check out these pressurized oil containers.  http://www.lubrigard.com/products.as...&psc=5&pid=241I was considering using a small inexpensive garden sprayer for Jeep related refilling of the transfer case, differentials, and manual transmissions.   These sprayers utilize less then a few pound of air pressure to displace liquid.
Reply:Years ago they used to dispense oil at service stations with compressed air but it had to be controlled by a special limited low pressure air regulator and from memory 5psi was the figure involved. In that range, the garden sprayer may be fine but hose diameter may be an issue with oil being thicker than water.I think a control valve at the delivery end of the hose is a must. As per garden sprayers."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:[QUOTE=Tractapac;216582]...5psi was the figure involved.QUOTE]5psi is what I used for dispensing the engine oil /trans fluid from the on-board tanks in my service truck years ago.  Tapped right into the on-board air compressor tank.  Plenty of flow.Hey jamlit do you think that thing will work with 'NO OIL' that someone posted about a while back?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:'No Oil' is so much cheaper and easier to drill for, pump, transport and even process. Lots of wells out there with 'No Oil' in them.
Reply:I just use and old water fire extinguisher.   Works great with 50W syn transmission fluid and 90W gear oil.   with 100 PSI in it I will dispense 4 gallons of what ever lube you want in a single shot I did paint it Flat black and put OIL on it with white and keep it outta site.   That way if a fire does break out,  the black should help it blend in and the fact that it says OIL on it should keep me from spraying it on a fire.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
