I have a chance to buy a used Hypotherm 1250, that needs some repair. The owner says it just quit working and he does not know what the problem is. He wants $150. Is this worth taking a chance on? Are these generally reliable machines? Are repairs expensive?Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Reply:The seller says it is a Hypotherm, I assume he means Hypertherm.
Reply:A 1250? I'd take a chance on it in a heartbeat - but ask him if he's take $100 due to the uncertainties.Jim Colt here and the Tech crew at Hypertherm can give you a hand scoping it out.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:The Powermax1250 sold for around $4000 new....and is a very reliable system. It is worth the $150 easily....however it could be an expensive repair...or it could be very simple...there is no way to tell without doing some troubleshooting. You could pull off the cover ....look at the main large circuit board....and if you don't see any melted, burned components...then there is a better chance that the problem will be relatively minor. The Hypertherm Tech Servive department can help you troubleshoot the system once it is powered up.Jim Colt Originally Posted by tallgrassI have a chance to buy a used Hypotherm 1250, that needs some repair. Reply:I am going to look at it on Saturday. After reading the specs it might be more cutter than I am looking for, as I will just be using it on small stuff in my garage.

Reply:Well it ended up being a Powermax 350. Looks clean, but doesn't work. I decided to take a chance and bought it for $75. It has 4 sets of new tips. Now I need to down load and print a manual. |
