I'm building a 2 seater off road go-cart for the kids and myself. The plans call for 1" schedual 40 pipe or 11/4 pipe 1/8 thick. I'm not one to change plans but this will weight a ton. What do you suggest? I want to stay with the 11/4 diameter pipe because I have a tubing bender die that size.reber
Reply:I use 14 gauge 1-1/4 and it is plenty strong enough. 1/8" would be way over kill and you are right about it weighing a ton.https://My Youtube Channel
Reply:I'm not sure where they came up with the 1 1/4" Pipe at 1/8" thick, as 1 1/4" Schedule 40 Pipe is .140 wall thickness - Schedule 10 is .109   FYI......1" Schedule 40 Pipe - 1.32" OD - .130 wall thickness - 1.05" ID - 1.68 lb/ft1 1/4" Schedule 40 Pipe - 1.66" OD - .140 wall thickness - 1.38" ID - 2.27 lb/ft1 1/4" 4130 'Chrome Moly' Tube - 14ga/.083 wall thickness - .924 lb/ftKeep in mind... Pipe is measured nominally ID - Tube is measured OD. Your bender will either be for pipe OR tubing.BretRanger 250 * Invertec V205-T * Invertec V275-S * Precision Tig 225 * Power Mig 300 w/ Python Push/Pull Pro-Cut 25 Plasma * Millermatic 150 * Hobart Handler 175 * Bernard 3060 Tig Cooler Everlast LG-80E Plasma Cutter * Henrob 2000

Reply:Broccoli1 Bigger motor and lighter steel = funFitterYes pipe and tubing are different. I built a tubing bender my die is for tubing. 1" schedual 40 pipe is even heavier.

Reply:I should have read my on thread or proof read what i wrote. What I should have said was I want to stay with tubing NOT pipe. I built a tubing bender and have tubing dies for 11/4 tubing.1" schedule 40 pipe is even heavier than 11/4 pipe (1/8 wall thickness).I put an order in for 11/4 14 gauge tubing and will pick it up Wednesday.Sorry for the confusion.
