I'm trying to find out what temperature I should use to stress relieve 1"x3/4" 1020 DOM that has been tig welded using er70s-2. I have a call in to my local Prax-air, however they are sometimes slow to respond. Does anyone know of a website that contains information like this on different grades of steel? Thanks, Cord
Reply:why do you need it stress relieved?i do tons of rollers every week and very rarely do we stress relieve anything...but in the real world..this is tubing i suppose..to do it correctly you need to turn the scale off the o.d. FIRST..then it needs to go in a oven to bake for awhile around 600 degreesand let cool in the oven after its shut off overnite...i could be wrong about the temp but thats the procedure......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The fabrication is being done on a 67 cadillac so I thought it might be a good idea to stress relieve the welds on the cross members/frame etc. The plan was to purchase some temperature sticks from the local welding supply and stress relieve with O/A and temp stick. Is this not a sufficient method? Or maybe not even worth doing.-Cord
