weld cast iron

need to build up a edge on a cast iron wheel rod i bought is a 3/32 nickel 55 for castit says preheat is mandatory to 700 to 800 degrees how do you do this?

Reply:gas or charcoal grill if it will fit, Large rosebud tip on a large torch if it wont, Could also dig a shallow pit and fill with charcoal to make a large "oven" to pre-heat it.
Reply:Two ways to weld cast iron...preheat / weld / postheat / slow coolor...no preheat / short weld / allow to cool / short weld / allow to cool etc.
Reply:I agree with Old Skool...keep it hot, or keep it cold. If it's just a little build up on the outside of a wheel(no crack repairs, etc.), I would go with cold.
