Was going to try make one, but this one was going for 119.99 at our Princess auto, so figured better to buy than try to spend the time making it.But I will use it for ideas, anyone ever made their own and have pictures or plans for one?

Reply:I doubt you could make one for what you paid at Prince.  I have participated in building several where most of the material used was free scrap.  However, there is always stuff you have to buy to complete the project and considering the time involved you got a good deal.
Reply:i would like one for my garage, though what is the code? could i just run the chimney out of a window? i couldnt go through the roof because theres a room above..matthttp://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:CAMPSTOVES ??? !!!!  Those things you guys got look good enought ta heat an entire house.  Probably run ya outta the tent.  WOW !Just how cold does it get where y'all go campin ????
Reply:That's funny.... all the guys above are in 'cold' country and by all indications this winter will be a cold one. Here I sit in the deep south with a bunch of Viet Nam era military tent heaters complete with the wood/coal grates as well as the liquid fuel burners to go with them. They are in the back of my shop from a deal I made years ago. I almost forgot about them until I read this post. I'll be happy to make someone a deal on one (if you know what they are),but there is an awful lot of parts to them for shipping.Would probably require a 2'x2'x3' box about 80# to ship. I had 30-40 of them at one time, but swapped & traded off a lot of them. That second heater looks awful large for a tent, but great for a shop. That first one posted is usually over $300 isn't it? Here it is hotter than blue blazes and we're discussing winter heaters already...LOL...Hope nobody gets too cold this winter.
Reply:Matt,Code varies from locale to locale.  Most of the time there are minimum required distances to flammable walls/floors/ceilings/etc and may require the installation of bought or fabricated 'heat shields'.  There are also size and distance requirements for where the flue pipe passes through walls/floors/ceilings/etc and that usually involves the purchase and installation of the 'special' pass-through adapters.Note also that some areas do not 'allow' the use of wood burning heaters unless they are of the new 'clean' design (with emissions limits/controls/etc) with built-in catalytic converters.  Such areas put those limits in place because of all the wood smoke and air pollution from idjits poorly running their wood stoves and fireplaces making smoke and crud. Also, your locale may restrict or have other limitations/criteria on the use of open-flame devices in garages, because of the possibility of gasoline vapors in the garage.  Gasoline vapors + flame = FIRE/BOOM!  YMMV.You'll have to ask what the code requirements and limits are from the applicable code official(s) in your locale.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:4 Star Military Surplus has the stove listed for $109.99.  Neat little stove. looking at the pics the door has no gasket and would be prone to warp allowing smoke and CO to leak in your tent.  While I'm on the subject of the tent, most tents don't have the fire resistant metal panel for the stove pipe to go through.  Be sure you check that out, if you are going to use this stove in a tent.  If you are using it in your shop, crack a window for ventilation.I'd bet money it's a Chinese made item, and won't meet code in any state.  The stove I heat my weld shop with won't either.  Company that made them went out of production in the late 80's because of that.Good luck with your stove.

Reply:Partsman,Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but noticed the bus in the background and your location, had a strange sense of deja' vu.  Are the ex-Ballard fuel cell units, converted to Allison hybrid still running about?  Pretty cool little stove though!Chris
Reply:Yes, we are still running some hybrids, some Bio diesels, our usual CNG gas also, we are running the series 50 diesel and gas powered buses, and am also trying a Westport CNG system on one bus.
Reply:A little out of subject.  Is the bus running CNG or LNG?
