I'm trying decide which unit is better for me. If you disregard cost which welder would you buy?Regards,Justin
Reply:There are two other welders in that market segment.  HTP and Lincoln both have ~200A square-wave machines.  The T/A is the cheapest, the HTP I believe has the most value, and I think the Lincoln might have the most features.-Heath
Reply:I just got a quote on the 200dx, fully loaded, it's at 3100.00.  For all sitting on the fence, If you're considering getting a Miller, they're going to have a nationwide price increase effective August 13th.   I'm having to pull in all my capital purchases for the next coupla months due to this.I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:i dont know crap about diffrent machines.. but i do know you need one that will go to 400 amps...FOOTPEDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AC. ... DC. neg. ...DC. straight.... add a watercooled torch and its off to the races!!..for me anyway..i never met a machine that "won" ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I would humbly like to suggest, Zap, that given operations involving thin section aluminum, if one has the means available, a 200 square wave inverter machine might be preferable over a 400 amper.  For instance, on 3/8" double vee groove welding, I use a Miller 300 (insert your brand name here as necessary, I don't want to get into a brand fight with anyone).  For heavy section aluminum, a Dynasty 400.  For thin section nickel alloy parts, I use a MaxStar 200, and for thin section aluminum, the Dynasty 200dx.  Even though I could weld the thin sections on the higher amp machines, the better amp control on the low range of the 200 inverters makes for better weldments, and better control.  If you plan on doing both, get the 400.  If you're gonna be doing small stuff the rest of your life, get the 200 inverter. And yes with the foot pedal, and HF, and pulser, to give you the most flexibiliity.I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:i just like the fact that i can go from "itsy bitsy" to whatever is in front of me..but thats just me... but for home use..i guess there are limits...but for shop use theres no replacement for displacement..wait....thats engine talk.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I would agree with Zap however I'm a Weld for fun guy (lots of projects) and I am very pleased with my HTP Invertig 201. There was no need to go bigger because my wallet was way too thin for the big stuff.  If you've got the dough......then the criteria should be as long as it fits in the garage then go for it.Michael
Reply:The Dynasty will cost about $1300 more than a TA.  What you get for that is an extra 15 amps output,  A few HZ. higher top end frequency on AC, A dig control for stick and the ability run on 110VAC.  If you don't need the 110VAC input ability then it's a no brainer.  Go TA.  Granted Miller sets the standard for service and support but Thermal's service and support appears to also be excellent.  BTW the control setup on the TA is more Probably more user friendly than the Dynasty.  I almost forgot but I think 200 DX may have a couple of recallable user presets.  To be honest if you know what settings you want on the TA it can be setup in a few seconds so the memory function isn't really needed.  There may be a few other minor diffs but again the big advantage to the Dynasty is the 110 ac ability that the TA lacks.  BTW I like the TA footpedal better than the Miller but there was a some discussion on the boards about whether Thermal had switched to the same pedal as Miller uses.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill

Reply:You can run a watercooled torch on a TA.  If you go that route you might want to skip the Tig/stick kit and buy the power source by itself.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:if $$ was no t in the issue i would go miller dyn200DX, if its for a business again i would go miller dyn200DX, if its to play with at home for a Hobie and $$ is an issue the TA-185 is more realistic. if i had the $$ i would have a dyn, if i made my living with it i would have saved longer and gotten the miller. as it is i just play with mine in my lil shop out back and was happy when the wife said i could get the TA-185 after 3 years of saving. the TA-185 is a good lil TIG unit with more features than most beginners will have a clue how to use but you will figure them out. the Dyn200 is a more robust unit that will likely take more abuse than the TA, but if you treat the TA right it will do the same for you. as for the foot  control, you can get one from SCS for the miller for about $200 that is the same as the one on the TA and yep it seems like a nicer controller from a comfort standpoint, its lower and wider.be shore to let us know what you decide. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:Jeez Fun   I thought you would be True Purple by now.   Like you I'm just glad to have my TA.  Just thought of this.  If your shop is right off a fairway you might want to go ahead and get a Dynasty.  Guess along the same line you might want a steel covered hood.  FOUR!    LOLDennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:i don't have any thing against the TA-185 i think its a great lil TIG unit, its just that the miller is a lil more robustly built, getting parts in a hurry will be easier and more likely. its kinda like the HH135 (now 140) VS the MM135 the same parent company owns them, also the red 135 are all close but if you look closely (like i did when purchasing one) you will see some obvious upgrades in quality. in the case of the 135 amp MIG welder that upgrade to the miller was only $100 give or take a lil bit but in the TIG AC/DC units the TA-185 has a huge $$ advantage and i just could not aford the extra for the upgraded quality for some thing i play with. if it was for a business that was going to pay for it and i had customers waiting on my work and me relying on the welder working every day or being repaired fast, Miller Dyn.200DX would be the way to go.again not saying the TA-185 is a bad unit, just that the miller would be a better choice for a work situation especially if out of shop work was involved. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
