I'm using 2% Ceriated for both DC and AC. The various welding handbooks mentions keeping DC and AC tungsten apart but they typically list pure Tungsten and 2% Thoriated. Should I separate my 2% Ceriated?I'm practicing on aluminum and I'm having a hard time getting a clean look to it. I have little bumps on the beads and it comes out looking dull.
Reply:Also, do you guys do anything special to clean your tungsten after grinding it down?Justin
Reply:Are you talking about storing them separately? I've never heard that you should, but I don't read much. I keep them in the factory containers anyway, just so I know what I'm grabbing.I grind and weld. I might wipe it with my glove sometimes, probably out of habit.

Reply:never have. i keep grinding down and weld also as long as you get all the contaminate off when you grind, it shouldn't matter
Reply:Sounds like you were told that so you didn't confuse one type of tungsten for the other.Once the painted end is gone ... Such as if you cut a tungsten into 2 or more smaller tungstens for a small torch or short back cap. You can't very well tell them apart anymore.Washman
Reply:You can file marks in the Tungsten to replace the color code. EG 1 mark pure, 2 marks thoriated, 3 marks ceriated and so on.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
